Gap Inc. 901 Cherry

Sustainable corporate campus: San Bruno, CA

Project Description

For its first build-to-suit corporate office, Gap Inc. created a sustainable campus within the confines of a conventional budget and project schedule. The program included conference facilities, a café, a fitness center, and lap pool. The project benefited from an integrated design process, bringing together architecture, workplace, and engineering disciplines early in the design phase.

The result is an innovative, healthy workplace environment, and a building that consumes approximately 30% less energy than allowed by Title 24 energy standards. The project includes one of the first extensive grass roof systems installed in California, operable windows, underfloor air distribution, and sustainable, low-toxicity materials. The project has won numerous awards for its design and sustainable solutions.

My role: Project architect for Gensler's design team, coordinating architecture, workplace, and engineering designers, from final design development through construction administration.
